Phenanthrene-degrading phenotype of Alcaligenes faecalis AFK2.

چکیده
A phenanthrene-degrading bacterium that assimilated a wide range of organic compounds was isolated from a soil sample and identified as Alcaligenes faecalis strain AFK2. The strain degraded phenanthrene through protocatechuate, but did not utilize naphthalene. The phenanthrene-degrading phenotype (Phn+) of AFK2 disappeared after 20 successive subcultures in a mineral salts medium containing o-phthalate or after subculture in nutrient broth containing mitomycin C. The results suggested that the Phn+ phenotype of this strain might be encoded by extrachromosomal genes.

Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon-degrading Bacteria from Aviation Fuel Spill Site at Ibeno, Nigeria
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH)-degrading bacteria were isolated from aviation fuel contaminated soil at Inua Eyet Ikot in Ibeno, Nigeria. PAH-degrading bacteria in the contaminated soil were isolated by enrichment culture technique. Isolates with high PAH degrading potential characterized by their extensive growth on PAH-supplemented minimal salt medium were screened for their naphthalen...
متن کاملCharacterization of a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon degradation gene cluster in a phenanthrene-degrading Acidovorax strain.
Acidovorax sp. strain NA3 was isolated from polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH)-contaminated soil that had been treated in a bioreactor and enriched with phenanthrene. The 16S rRNA gene of the isolate possessed 99.8 to 99.9% similarity to the dominant sequences recovered during a previous stable-isotope probing experiment with [U-(13)C]phenanthrene on the same soil (D. R. Singleton, S. N. Pow...
متن کاملRemoval of High-Strength of Ammonium and Phenol from Coking Wastewater by Alcaligenes Faecalis No.4
Alcaligenes faecalis No.4, which is capable of heterotrophic nitrification and aerobic denitrification was used to treat coking wastewater (CW) to remove high-strength of ammonium and phenol. First, the phenol-degrading ability of No.4 was verified and a synthetic medium containing lactate and phenol as carbon sources was subsequently applied to the No.4 culture. Both carbon materials were enti...
متن کاملDraft Genome Sequence of Alcaligenes faecalis BDB4, a Polyaromatic Hydrocarbon-Degrading Bacterium Isolated from Crude Oil-Contaminated Soil
Alcaligenes fecalis BDB4 was isolated from crude oil-contaminated soil in India. The genome sequence of A. faecalis BDB4 revealed the presence of important genes required for polyaromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) metabolism and other associated functions, such as chemotaxis, membrane transport, and biofilm formation, giving insight into the complete PAH mineralization potential of this bacterium.
متن کاملSelection and identification of bacteria isolated from waste crude oil with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons removal capacities.
Fifteen bacterial strains isolated from solid waste oil samples were selected due to their capacity of growing in the presence of hydrocarbons. The isolates were identified by PCR of the 16S rDNA gene using fD1 and rD1 primers. The majority of the strains belonged to genera Bacillus, Bacillus pumilus (eight strains) and Bacillus subtilis (two strains). Besides, three strains were identified as ...
